This week has been all about sorting! Sorting our maths materials, sorting shapes and even sorting letters! We have learnt that we always need a rule when sorting and that we can change the rule and sort again! One of our favourite games this week has been when our teachers sorted us and we needed to work out how they sorted us. This game is called ‘what’s my rule?’. Some of the ways we have sorted our maths tools is by: colour, shape, size and object. We love sorting!
Another busy week for the Preps at MPPS. This week, we have been learning all about the letter Ll. We made L leaves in our Alphabet Scrapbook, we drew pictures of things starting with L and we even wrote down some L words! In writing, we discussed what we like to do on our birthday and then we drew pictures and wrote about it. We learnt about graphs this week in numeracy and we even made a birthday graph where we sorted and ordered all our birthdays. We are trying very hard to remember when our own birthdays are! We have been talking about calendars, the days of the week and the date each day. Of course, we had some great developmental play during Friday Fun and some of us have even been doing a Finger Gym on Friday afternoons to help get our hands strong so writing is easier!
It’s been a short but busy week for the preps at MPPS. In literacy this week, we have been learning all about the letter Ss! We have started using our handwriting books and we’ve done some fantastic writing and drawing about our favourite toy! In numeracy, we discussed the difference between maths tools and toys and we’ve started to record our maths thinking in our maths books. A great week in Prep A, B, C and D.
Last week included some big events, including Italian day on Monday, and the Collingwood Children’s Farm excursion on Thursday. Both were huge events where our preps enjoyed new experiences to support their learning at school. We will post some prep writing and photos soon.
Another new experience last week was playing on the oval for the first time! The prep students have demonstrated their excellent skills in showing our school values and using problem solving steps when outside in the playground, and we are confident they will continue this in their new extended play areas. The oval provides more room for running around, kicking balls, general frolicking, foraging in the bushes, as well as finding new places to sit and have a relaxing chat. This also coincided with National Tree Planting day, where each prep class planted their own tree along the fence along Bent St. We look forward to watching these grow and change with the students over the next few years!
PREPS ENJOYING THEIR FIRST DAY ON THE OVAL!

What are busy couple of weeks we have had! We had a fantastic day last Friday celebrating our 100th day of school with lots of activities and delicious food for our party. Thank you to all families who contributed a treat to share with all 3 prep classes. Luckily the disco was organised for the same night so the children were able to dance the night away and use up some of their energy! It was great to see so many prep children having a fun with their friends at the disco and lots of parent helpers.
Last week we had our excursion to the Collingwood Children’s Farm where we were able to see and feed some of the beautiful animals. This week we also had a visit from the Wild Action Zoo where students were able to get up close to some fascinating creatures like a crocodile, snake, and an owl (photos to follow soon)! They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learnt some interesting facts about each animal. We are loving learning about animals in our world and things they need to survive!
Last week our letter of the week was ‘p’ and this week we have been learning about the letter ‘k’. We have been continuing with some personal writing and our “VIP” letters. This week in buddies we have been working on an animal project where students choose an animal, draw and label a diagram of it, and write facts they know about this animal. This project will continue over the remainder of the term during buddies.
